DirecTEX Knitwear 2018 Year In Review
2018 was a rewarding year for DirecTEX. We continue to successfully navigate the unpredictable retail climate by staying true to our values and our customers. We work hard to remain an industry leader and a source of expertise in knitwear design and development.
New technology has shed light on the heartbreaking level of pollution and waste in the fashion industry. Without question, sustainability was discussed more than any other topic in 2018. There has been a notable shift in the way people live and shop due to environmental and economic pressures. 2018 saw a huge increase in the use of sustainable energy, especially solar. We are noticing new lifestyle trends that are changing the landscape of many industries like working remotely and the tiny house movement. Fewer people are getting married. Millennials are waiting longer to have children and even electing to be childless
Businesses in every industry and area of the supply chain are responding. DirecTEX is paying attention and we are responding too. One of DirecTEX’s proudest moments of 2018 was the installation of solar panels on top of our Minneapolis office building.
There are about 80 units up there, making DirecTEX, on average, electricity independent.
Jakob Baller – Director of Operations
In our first month with the solar panels turned on, we generated 4.88 MWh of electricity and saved 12,618.11 lbs. in carbon emissions, which is equivalent to 317.8 trees planted. We think that is pretty cool, but we also understand this is a tiny drop in a massive pond. Looking forward to the year ahead (and the foreseeable future), making the fashion industry cleaner and safer will be seminal to our operation.
